The Illinois Basin Coalfield is experiencing a resurgence in interest as utilities seek low cost,
dependable coal supplies to fuel the massive amount of new scrubbing taking place in the U.S. Utilities have found the Basin to be a suitable replacement of high cost Appalachian coal. Exporters have also found Illinois Basin coal to be an excellent fuel source in the international thermal market.
